76: Chief Parliamentary Counsel must support international transparency obligations

You could also call this:

"Chief Parliamentary Counsel helps New Zealand keep its promises to be open and honest about its laws."

The Chief Parliamentary Counsel has to help make sure New Zealand meets its international transparency obligations. You can think of international transparency obligations like promises New Zealand makes to other countries to be open and honest about its laws. The Chief Parliamentary Counsel must publish links to certain laws electronically as soon as possible, and make sure people can access them on the legislation website.

The Chief Parliamentary Counsel also has to give directions to the people who make these laws, telling them what information they need to provide and how they need to provide it, including links to the laws. If the Chief Parliamentary Counsel asks, the people who make the laws must republish the laws on their own website in a certain format, which is explained in section 75.

A direction from the Chief Parliamentary Counsel is a type of law, and it has to be published in a certain way, as explained in this part of the Legislation Act 2019.
