Illustration for Human Rights Act 1993

When you make a complaint, the Commission must tell you and others about what happens next. They inform you, the person the complaint is about, and sometimes the Attorney-General, about their process under section 82. They also tell you about your rights and the complaint process. The Commission must give you general information about the complaint process, including your rights and obligations under the Act. They also tell you about other services that can help resolve the issue. You and the person the complaint is about have the right to give the Commission more information about the complaint. The Commission tries its best to inform everyone involved in the complaint. If they make a reasonable effort to tell you, they have done their job. This includes telling the person the complaint is about and the Attorney-General, if necessary, about the complaint and their right to respond.
