You commit an offence against this Act if you do certain things. You can get a fine of up to $3,000 if you are convicted. You will be convicted if you wilfully obstruct or hinder the Commission or a Commissioner, or if you refuse to comply with their lawful requirements, or if you make a false statement knowing it to be false. You must not obstruct, hinder, or resist the Commission or a Commissioner without a good reason. You must not refuse to comply with their lawful requirements without a good reason. You must not make false statements or try to mislead them. The Commission or a Commissioner has certain powers under this Act, and you must not try to stop them from using these powers. 143Offences

  1. Every person commits an offence against this Act and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3,000 who—

  2. without lawful justification or excuse, wilfully obstructs, hinders, or resists the Commission or a Commissioner or any other person in the exercise of its or his or her powers under this Act:
    1. without lawful justification or excuse, refuses or wilfully fails to comply with any lawful requirement of the Commission or a Commissioner or any other person under this Act:
      1. makes any false statement knowing it to be false or intentionally misleads or attempts to mislead the Commission or a Commissioner or any other person in the exercise of its or his or her powers under this Act.
