A witness summons can be given to you in two ways. You can be given the summons personally, or it can be delivered to your home by a prepaid delivery service that requires you to sign for it. The summons must be given to you a certain amount of time before you are required to attend, which is at least 24 hours if given personally, or at least 8 working days if delivered to your home.
