When you hear the term parent Crown entity, it refers to a Crown entity that has a special relationship with another Crown entity. You are a parent Crown entity if you are a statutory entity, a Crown entity company, a school board, or a tertiary education institution. You must also have another Crown entity that is a subsidiary of you, which is explained in section 7(1)(c).

This relationship can also happen when you share a subsidiary with one or more other Crown entities. You need to look at the definition of Crown entity subsidiaries in section 7(1)(c) to understand this better. This helps you know what a parent Crown entity is and how it works.
