Operation of Crown entities - Provisions applying generally to Crown entities - Employees

118: Crown entity to be good employer

You could also call this:

"Crown entities must treat their workers fairly and provide a good workplace."

Illustration for Crown Entities Act 2004

If you work for a Crown entity, it must be a good employer to you. This means the Crown entity must have a personnel policy that is fair and good for all employees. You should be able to see this policy, including the equal employment opportunities programme, and the Crown entity must make sure it follows this policy.

A good employer gives you good and safe working conditions, and makes sure everyone has an equal chance to get a job. This includes Māori, people from other ethnic groups, women, and people with disabilities. The Crown entity must also help you improve your skills and recognise your cultural differences.

The Crown entity must report each year on how well it is following its personnel policy, including its equal employment opportunities programme. This programme is designed to find and remove any barriers that might make it unfair for some people to get a job or be treated equally at work.
