If you live in a residence, the manager can check items sent to you or items you want to send. They can check items delivered to the residence for you or items you intend to send. The manager checks items to see if they are not allowed or if getting them might go against your management plan. They also check if the item might be bad for you or others.

If the manager thinks an item is not allowed, they must follow certain rules to deal with it, which are explained in section 23(2) and (3). The manager can stop you from getting an item if they think it might be bad for you or others. They can also stop an item from being sent if they think it might cause problems.

48Items intended for, or intended to be sent by, resident may be inspected

  1. The residence manager may inspect any item that is—

  2. sent or delivered to the residence for a resident; or
    1. intended to be sent by the resident.
      1. The purpose of an inspection under subsection (1) is to ascertain whether—

      2. the item is a prohibited item; or
        1. the receipt of the item by, or the dispatch of the item on behalf of, the resident concerned may—
          1. contravene the resident's management plan; or
            1. be otherwise detrimental to the interests and treatment of the resident or of other persons.
            2. If the manager is satisfied, under subsection (2), that an item inspected is a prohibited item (other than an item that the resident concerned is permitted to possess under rules made under section 119), the manager must deal with the item in accordance with section 23(2) and (3).

            3. If the manager considers that subsection (2)(b) applies to the item, the manager may direct that the item be withheld from the resident or not be dispatched, as the case requires.
