Illustration for Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Act 2014

If someone has the authority to search you, they can also search things you are carrying. They can look at items you have with you or in your possession. This is part of the authority given by the Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Act 2014.

If someone has the authority to do a rub-down search of you, they can search your belongings and some of your clothing. They can look at things like your outer clothes, head covering, gloves, or footwear. They can also search items you are carrying.

If someone has the authority to do a strip search or x-ray search, they can search the clothes you remove and the things you are carrying. They have the authority to look at the items you have with you. This authority is also given by the Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Act 2014.

If someone needs to search an item, they can use reasonable force to open it. They can also use special tools like x-ray equipment to help with the search. You can compare this to other laws, such as the one from 2004 No 50.

Someone searching a place or an item can use special tools to help them. These tools can include things like chemical substances or imaging equipment. They can use these tools to search a residence or an item.
