Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007

Regulation of immigration advisers - Licensing process

24: Renewal of licence

You could also call this:

“How to get your licence again when it runs out”

If you want to renew your licence, you need to apply to the Registrar before your current licence expires. The process for renewing your licence is similar to when you first applied for it. The rules in Sections 18 to 22 will apply to your renewal application, but there might be some small changes.

If you’ve applied to renew your licence but haven’t received an answer by the time your current licence is supposed to end, don’t worry. Your licence will stay valid until a decision is made about your renewal.

When your licence renewal is approved, it will start from the day your old licence was meant to finish. This is true even if your old licence was extended while you were waiting for a decision on your renewal.

Licensing process

24Renewal of licence

  1. An application for renewal of a licence must be made to the Registrar on or before the date on which the licence expires.

  2. Sections 18 to 22 apply, with any necessary modifications and subject to any provisions prescribed in regulations, to an application for renewal for a licence as if it were an application for a licence.

  3. If an application for renewal of a licence has been made but not determined before the date on which the licence would otherwise expire, the licence continues in force until the application is determined.

  4. The grant of a renewal of a licence takes effect from the date of expiry of the previous licence (as determined before the application of subsection (3)).
