The Government Policy Statement (GPS) is like a plan for the health sector. You will find the Government's priorities and objectives for the publicly funded health sector in the GPS. The GPS also explains how health entities should meet these priorities and objectives. The GPS includes the Government's priorities for improving health outcomes for different groups, such as Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled people, women, and rural communities. It also has a framework for monitoring progress and reporting requirements. The Minister can add other relevant matters to the GPS, but it cannot force health entities to approve or decline funding for specific products, services, or providers, as amended by the Pae Ora (Disestablishment of Māori Health Authority) Amendment Act 2024.
