The board of Health New Zealand has some extra jobs to do. You need to know that the board must make sure Health New Zealand acts in a way that is consistent with the GPS and the New Zealand Health Plan. The board must also make sure Health New Zealand operates in a financially responsible manner. The board has to ensure Health New Zealand has the capacity and capability to perform its functions. You will see that this includes understanding te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaupapa Māori services, cultural safety and responsiveness of services, mātauranga Māori, and Māori perspectives of services. The board's duties are in addition to its duties in sections 49 to 52 of the Crown Entities Act 2004. The board's duties are collective duties owed to the Minister for the purposes of section 58 of the Crown Entities Act 2004. The board must work together to make sure Health New Zealand does its job well. You can find more information about the Crown Entities Act 2004 on the New Zealand legislation website.
