The Board of Health New Zealand has between 5 and 8 members. You know the Minister is in charge of appointing these members and the chairperson. When the Minister chooses the members, they must make sure the board has knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, public funding, public sector governance, and financial management. The Minister must be satisfied that the board has experience and expertise in these areas. This includes understanding the public funding and provision of services, as well as public sector governance and government processes. The board must also have knowledge of financial management. You can find more information about the changes to this section in the Pae Ora (Disestablishment of Māori Health Authority) Amendment Act 2024.
