Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987

Schedule 1AA: Transitional provisions relating to amendments to this Act coming into force on and after 1 April 2015

You could also call this:

“Changes to parental leave rules from 2015 to 2020”

You need to know about changes to parental leave rules that happened in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020. These changes affect when you can take parental leave and get paid for it.

If your baby was due or born on or after 1 April 2015, or you adopted a child from that date, new rules applied. You could even give notice or apply for leave before 1 April 2015 using these new rules. Similar changes happened for babies due or born from 1 April 2016, or adoptions from that date.

More changes came in 2017 and 2020. If your baby was due or born on or after 1 July 2018, or you became a primary carer from that date, different rules applied. You could give notice or apply before 1 July 2018 using these rules. The same thing happened for babies due or born from 1 July 2020, or if you became a primary carer from that date.
