When you read this part of the law, some words have special meanings. The Auckland transport system means the roads in Auckland, public transport services in Auckland, and the infrastructure for public transport owned by the Council or Auckland Transport. You can find what roads and public transport services mean by looking at the Local Government Act 1974 and the Land Transport Management Act 2003.

The Auckland transport system does not include State highways, railways controlled by the New Zealand Railways Corporation, off-street parking facilities controlled by the Council, or airfields. A director includes the chairperson and the deputy chairperson of the board of directors of Auckland Transport. The Director of Land Transport is the person appointed under section 104A of the Land Transport Management Act 2003.

The New Zealand Railways Corporation is the company set up under the New Zealand Railways Corporation Act 1981. The New Zealand Transport Agency is the government agency set up by section 93 of the Land Transport Management Act 2003.

When you see the words land transport, regional land transport plan, and State highway in this part of the law, they have the same meanings as in section 5(1) of the Land Transport Management Act 2003.
