The Auckland Council is made up of two main parts: the governing body and the local boards. You can think of it like a team with two sub-teams working together. The governing body and local boards share the decision-making responsibilities, which means they work together to make decisions about what the Council does. This is explained in more detail in sections 14 to 23 of this Act.

When the Council makes a governance statement, as required by section 40 of the Local Government Act 2002, it must include information about how the governing body and local boards work together and make decisions.

The Council's governance statement must describe and explain how the decision-making responsibilities are shared between the governing body and the local boards, so you can understand how they work together to make decisions for Auckland.
