Illustration for Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009

The board can choose its own name. You know the board is a group of people who work on important issues for mana whenua groups and mataawaka of Tamaki Makaurau. If the board decides to name itself, it can change the name later if it wants to.

The board has to tell the Minister of Māori Affairs and the Auckland Council what its name is, or if it changes its name. You can find more information about the laws that affect the board by looking at the Local Government (Auckland Council) Amendment Act 2010. The board must tell them as soon as possible.

The board is in charge of letting the Minister and the Auckland Council know about its name.
