Illustration for Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009

The Auckland Council can make rules for Auckland Transport to follow. You need to know these rules can be about how Auckland Transport's governing body works, how it appoints staff, and how it buys or sells important assets. The Council can also make rules about how Auckland Transport employs its chief executive.

Auckland Transport must follow these rules, but the rules cannot contradict the rest of this Act or Part 5 of the Local Government Act 2002. The rules must also follow section 6(3)(d) of the Local Government Act 2002. This is to make things clear.

The Auckland Council makes these rules so Auckland Transport knows what to do. You can find more information about how these rules work in the Act. The rules help Auckland Transport work properly.
