You are part of a community that has a local board. A local board is not a separate organisation, it is part of the Auckland Council. You need to know that a local board cannot own things, make contracts, hire staff or go to court on its own. It has to follow the rules of the Auckland Council.

A local board makes some decisions for the Auckland Council, as stated in section 16. This means you have a say in what happens in your community through your local board. The local board's decisions are important, but it still has to work within the Auckland Council's rules.
