Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009

Auckland Council - Local boards

11AAD: Prohibition on candidacy for local board

You could also call this:

"You can't run for another local board if you're already on one, unless it's a general election."

Illustration for Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009

If you are a member of a local board, you cannot be a candidate for election to another local board. You are already helping make decisions for one area, so you cannot try to be elected to help make decisions for a different area. This rule does not apply if there is a general election for your current local board at the same time as the election for the other local board.

If you want to know more about this rule, you can look at section 58AA of a related law. This law is related to the Local Government (Auckland Council) Amendment Act 2016. You can find more information about these laws on the legislation.govt.nz website.
