You are part of a community with a local board that makes decisions for your area. Your local board is responsible for making decisions about non-regulatory activities that affect your community, as outlined in section 17. They also identify what people in your area want and need, and communicate this to the Auckland Council.

Your local board helps create strategies, policies, and plans for your community, and makes sure these align with what people in your area want. They can also develop bylaws that are specific to your area and propose them to the governing body, as described in section 24. Your local board works with the governing body to agree on local activities for your area, which is recorded in the local board agreement.

When making decisions, your local board must follow the rules set out in sections 76 to 82 of the Local Government Act 2002, which guide how local authorities make decisions. Your local board may also work with other local boards to make decisions that benefit multiple communities.
