A local board has jobs, tasks, and powers given to it by this Act or other laws. You can think of these jobs, tasks, and powers as things the local board must do or can do. The local board must do things like exercise responsibilities given to it by section 16(1), monitor and report on the local board agreement as stated in section 23, and communicate with community groups.

The local board also has to undertake tasks given to it by the governing body under section 31 or Auckland Transport under section 54. You might be interested to know the local board can consider and report on matters that concern it, even if the governing body does not ask it to. The local board can also use powers given to it by the governing body under section 31 or Auckland Transport under section 54.
