To commence a first appeal, you file a notice in the court where you want to appeal. You need to file a notice of appeal if you are appealing to the District Court, High Court, or Court of Appeal. If you are appealing to the Supreme Court, you file a notice of application for leave to appeal.

You must file your notice within 20 working days after the decision you are appealing against was made. The court can allow more time for you to file your notice if they want to. This means the court can extend the time limit for filing your notice of appeal or notice of application for leave to appeal.
