If you are a witness in court, the court can tell one of the parties involved to pay your costs and expenses. The court will decide how much to pay based on rules made under the Criminal Procedure Act 2011. You can find more information about these rules in the legislation.

If the court tells a party to pay your costs and expenses, they have to do it. If they do not pay, the court can enforce the order in the same way it would enforce a fine. This means the party will have to pay the amount owed.
