or “Ships covered by this law: New Zealand ships worldwide and foreign ships in NZ waters”

You could also call this:

“This Act covers work in specific sea areas and offshore travel around New Zealand”

This Act applies to you if you work in certain areas of the sea around New Zealand. These areas are called the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf. The Act covers you if you’re doing activities that are controlled by two other laws: the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012 or the Crown Minerals Act 1991.

The Act also applies to you if you’re on an aircraft or ship travelling between New Zealand and these work areas. This includes foreign ships too.

The ‘continental shelf’ is defined in another law called the Continental Shelf Act 1964. The ‘exclusive economic zone’ is an area of sea around New Zealand that’s defined in the Territorial Sea, Contiguous Zone, and Exclusive Economic Zone Act 1977.
