Reserve Bank of New Zealand - Governor

90: Removal of Governor from office

You could also call this:

"The Governor can be removed from their job by the Governor-General for a good reason."

Illustration for Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act 2021

The Governor-General can remove the Governor from their job at any time if they have a good reason. You need to know that the Governor-General gets advice from the Minister before making this decision. The Minister talks to the Attorney-General before giving this advice. The Minister can give this advice for certain reasons, such as those mentioned in section 92(1)(c) or (f), but only if the board recommends removing the Governor. For other good reasons, the Minister can give advice whether or not the board makes a recommendation, as stated in section 91. This is how the Governor can be removed from their job.
