Income Tax Act 2007

Tax credits and other credits - Terminating provisions

LZ 6: Interest on home vendor mortgages

You could also call this:

“Tax credit for interest from home vendor mortgages”

You can get a tax credit if you receive interest from a home vendor mortgage in a tax year. This applies to you as an individual, but not if you’re someone who doesn’t live in New Zealand, a company, a government organisation, a Maori authority, a group that isn’t a company, or a trustee who has to pay income tax under certain rules about trusts.

To work out your tax credit, you multiply the amount of interest you got from the home vendor mortgage by 0.020. You need to use the full dollar amount of interest, without any cents.

Remember that there’s another rule that can change this one. You can find it in section LZ 7.
