Illustration for Family Proceedings Act 1980

You have an order from a court in a Commonwealth or designated country. This order changes a maintenance agreement that is registered in New Zealand. The order has no effect until it is confirmed in New Zealand. You need to follow the same rules as another section of the law, which is section 139. This applies to any order that changes a maintenance agreement registered in New Zealand. The rules from section 139 will be used for these orders. The order must meet certain conditions, such as being made provisionally by a court in a Commonwealth or designated country. It must also cancel, vary, or suspend a maintenance agreement that is registered in New Zealand. The maintenance agreement must be registered in the Commonwealth or designated country as well.
