Illustration for Family Proceedings Act 1980

You can apply for a maintenance order under this Act by yourself or through an agent. You need to authorise your agent in writing to make the application on your behalf. If you are unable to authorise an agent, the manager of your estate under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988 can make the application for you. You can also have a next friend make the application if there is no manager for your estate. This means someone can help you with the application if you cannot do it yourself. They can act on your behalf to make the application.
