Illustration for Family Proceedings Act 1980

When you are in a court case under the Family Proceedings Act 1980, there are rules about what can be made public. These rules are found in sections 11B to 11D of the Family Court Act 1980. They apply to most cases, but not to criminal cases under section 130. These rules work slightly differently depending on which court you are in. If you are in the Family Court, the rules apply as they are written. If you are in a different court, the rules still apply, but you need to replace references to the Family Court with the name of the court you are in. You need to follow these rules when a report of your court case is being made public. This helps keep the information about your case correct and fair. The rules are in place to help you and everyone involved in the court case.
