Companies Act 1993

Disclosure by companies - Inspection of company records

218: Copies of documents

You could also call this:

“How to get copies of company documents you're allowed to see”

You can ask for a copy or part of a document that you’re allowed to look at under section 215 or section 216. The company must send it to you within 5 working days after you ask for it in writing. You’ll need to pay a fair fee to cover the costs of copying and handling.

If the company doesn’t give you the copy or part of the document when you’ve asked for it properly, they’re breaking the law. The company can be punished as set out in section 373(1). Also, each of the company’s directors can be punished as set out in section 374(1).
