Companies Act 1993

Accounting records and financial reporting - Financial reporting - Shareholders may request copy of financial statements prepared for tax purposes

207F: Shareholders may request copy of financial statements prepared for tax purposes

You could also call this:

“Shareholders can ask for and receive tax-related financial statements”

You have the right to ask for a copy of the company’s financial statements if they were made for tax reasons. This applies when the company doesn’t prepare financial statements under the Companies Act or the Financial Markets Conduct Act, but does prepare them for tax purposes.

If you’re a shareholder, you can ask the company in writing for a copy of these financial statements. This includes statements for the company itself or for the company’s group.

When you ask for these statements, the company must give them to you for free within 10 working days. They also need to give you a copy of the auditor’s report on those statements, if there is one.

Remember, this only applies to financial statements prepared for tax purposes, not to regular company financial statements.
