Protection of wildlife - Management planning

14G: Determining maximum allowable level of fishing-related mortality

You could also call this:

"Setting safe fishing limits to protect marine animals"

When the Minister decides the maximum allowable level of fishing-related mortality for threatened species or other marine wildlife under section 14F(1)(f), they do it in two different ways. If the species is threatened, the Minister determines a level that allows the species to no longer be threatened within 20 years. The Minister wants the species to recover as soon as reasonably possible.

For other marine wildlife, the Minister determines a level that does not reduce the population size or threaten the species' ability to reproduce. This means the Minister wants to make sure the species can still have babies and grow in number. The Minister makes these decisions to help protect marine wildlife.
