Wildlife Act 1953

Administration - Rangers

39C: Powers to require people to stop and to stop things or articles in transit

You could also call this:

"Rangers can stop people or things if they think a wildlife law has been broken."

If you are a ranger with certain powers under the Wildlife Act 1953, you can stop someone if you think they have broken the law. You can ask them to stay stopped for a short time, as long as it is reasonable. You can also stop things or articles that are being moved, like a vehicle or an animal, for a short time if you think it is necessary. You can do this if you are investigating a suspected offence against the Act or any regulations made under it, and you have reasonable cause to do so, as stated in section 39A. This power does not limit what you can do under section 39(1)(d).
