Wildlife Act 1953

Administration - Rangers

39E: Certain people to have power of arrest

You could also call this:

"Some special workers can arrest people to help protect wildlife"

The Director-General can give a ranger a written authority to arrest people. You can read more about this in section 39A and section 39F. This authority lets the ranger exercise the power of arrest under section 39F.

You might be wondering who else can arrest people. It includes every constable, and officers in charge of New Zealand Defence Force vessels, aircraft, or units. It also includes Customs officers, who are defined in section 2(1) of the Customs and Excise Act 1996, and fishery officers appointed under section 196(1) of the Fisheries Act 1996.

These people can exercise the power of arrest under section 39F, which is part of the Wildlife Act.
