When you get a facility licence, it must say when it starts and when it ends. The end date must be within 5 years of the start date. You can find out more about what happens after 5 years in the related sections.

If you want your facility licence to keep going, you can renew it in accordance with section 43. Your facility licence will end on the expiry date unless you renew it or something else happens to it. Something else that can happen to your licence is that it can be revoked or suspended earlier under section 44.

42Duration of facility licence

  1. A facility licence must specify the date on which it comes into force and the expiry date.

  2. The expiry date must not be later than 5 years after the date on which the facility licence comes into force.

  3. A facility licence expires on the expiry date unless it is—

  4. renewed in accordance with section 43; or
    1. revoked or suspended earlier under section 44.
