The Minister can ask you for information if you are applying for, or already have, a licence, permit, or authorisation. You will get a written notice telling you what information the Minister needs and how to give it to them. The Minister needs this information to do their job properly in relation to your licence, permit, or authorisation.

If you are applying for a licence, permit, or authorisation, the Minister might not give it to you if you do not provide the information they asked for within a reasonable time. The Minister might also not give it to you if they cannot verify the information you provided.

The Minister has the power to do this under the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Act 2017, which was amended by the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Amendment Act 2025, you can find more information about this amendment on the New Zealand legislation website.
