The electoral officer can make changes to the electoral roll if you ask them to. They can fix mistakes in names, addresses, and other details. The electoral officer can make these changes if you are on the roll or if you think you should be on the roll. They can also make changes if someone else asks them to. The electoral officer has to follow some rules when making changes to the roll. If the electoral officer gets information from a certain part of the Electoral Act 1993, they can only make changes if the person on the roll has died. In that case, the electoral officer has to remove the person's name from the roll. The electoral officer gets this information from section 113 of the Electoral Act 1993. The electoral officer might get advice from the Electoral Commission about you. If the Commission says you should be on the roll as a residential elector instead of a ratepayer elector, the electoral officer has to make that change. This means the electoral officer will update the roll to show your correct status.

47Amendments to roll

  1. The electoral officer may, on the application of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled or any other person or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to any names, addresses, occupations, abbreviations, marks, or other details, appearing in the electoral roll.

  2. Despite subsection (1), the electoral officer must not amend any information received under section 113 of the Electoral Act 1993 unless the electoral officer is satisfied that the elector is dead, in which case the electoral officer must remove the name of the elector from the electoral roll.

  3. If the electoral officer receives advice from the Electoral Commission that a person whose name is included on the electoral roll as a ratepayer elector is eligible to be included on the roll as a residential elector, the electoral officer must amend the roll accordingly.
