Illustration for Local Electoral Act 2001

You cannot be a candidate for a regional council and a constituent authority at the same time. A constituent authority is a territorial authority, local board, or community board in a region. If you are already a member of a constituent authority, you cannot be a candidate for the regional council, and if you are a member of the regional council, you cannot be a candidate for a constituent authority. You can find more information about this rule by looking at the Local Government Act. This rule does not apply if there is a general election for both the regional council and the constituent authority at the same time. If you want to be a candidate for one of these, you need to choose which one you want to stand for. The rules about being a candidate are important to follow, and you should understand what a constituent authority is before you decide to stand for election.
