Fast-track Approvals Act 2024

Fast-track approvals process - Panel consideration of substantive application - Draft decisions on approvals

72: Panel seeks comments from Minister for Māori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti and Minister for Māori Development

You could also call this:

“Panel asks two Māori ministers for their thoughts before deciding”

Before a panel decides to approve or deny something, they need to ask for comments from two important people: the Minister for Māori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti and the Minister for Māori Development. These ministers will look at the draft decision and any conditions that come with it.

The panel will tell the EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) to ask these ministers for their thoughts. The ministers have 10 working days to share what they think about the draft decision. This includes any assessments the panel made about a Treaty settlement and any conditions related to that assessment.

After the EPA gets the comments from the ministers, they must give them to the panel. This way, the panel can consider what the ministers said before making their final decision.
