Electricity Industry Act 2010

Electricity industry governance - Who does what - Industry participants and specified persons

9: Obligation to register and comply with Code

You could also call this:

“You must sign up and follow the rules if you work with electricity”

You need to register as an industry participant if you are involved in the electricity industry. To do this, you must give the Authority some information about yourself. This information is listed in section 27(2) of the Act.

You also need to follow the rules set out in the Code. The Code is a set of rules that everyone in the electricity industry must follow.

If you don’t register when you’re supposed to, you might get in trouble. You could be found guilty of breaking the law under section 31.

If you don’t follow the Code, you might face some consequences. These consequences are explained in this part of the Act.

There are also some people called “specified persons”. If you are a specified person, you must follow any rules in the Code that apply to you. These rules are explained in section 32(3).

If you’re a specified person and you don’t follow these rules, you might also face consequences. These consequences are also explained in this part of the Act.
