Electricity Industry Act 2010

Electricity industry governance - Who does what - Electricity Authority

13: Membership of Authority

You could also call this:

“This explains who can be part of the Electricity Authority and how they are chosen”

The Electricity Authority is a group of people who make decisions about electricity in New Zealand. The group has between 5 and 7 members.

When choosing someone to be part of the Authority, the Minister (a person in the government) needs to make sure that the group has members who know about and understand different things. These things include:

  1. The electricity industry
  2. Issues that affect people who use electricity
  3. How businesses work in general

Before the Minister can suggest someone to join the Authority, they must first ask the public for ideas about who should be in the group. The Minister needs to think about all the suggestions they get before making a decision.
