This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

If you are an enforcement officer, a safety zone officer, or someone helping them, you will not be in trouble for things you do or do not do when following this proposed law. This means you will not be liable in court for your actions when you are doing your job in good faith, except when you are using your powers to inspect or search under sections 105 and 106. You must be trying to do the right thing when performing your duties.

When you are inspecting or searching under sections 105 and 106, different rules apply to you. These rules are found in sections 166 and 167 of the Search and Surveillance Act 2012.

You will follow these rules if you are an enforcement officer, a safety zone officer, or someone assisting them, and you are exercising your powers to inspect or search.
