If you do not follow the rules of a safety zone officer under section 110, you might commit an offence. You need a good reason for not following the rules. If you break this rule, you could go to prison for up to 12 months or get a fine of up to $15,000, or both, if you are an individual. If you are not an individual, you could get a fine of up to $150,000.

You cannot be taken to court for this offence without the Attorney-General's permission if you committed it on a foreign ship. The Attorney-General must agree to the court case. This rule applies to offences committed on foreign ships.
