Illustration for Offshore Renewable Energy Bill

The government wants to give some people the power to check records kept by companies that have permits for offshore renewable energy. You might be wondering who these people are - they could be enforcement officers or independent auditors chosen by the chief executive. They can look at these records to find out if the companies are paying the right amount of money to the government and if they are following the rules.

These people can check records to see if companies are doing the right thing with their money and information. They will report back to the chief executive about what they find out. The chief executive is in charge of making sure companies follow the rules.

If the chief executive chooses an independent auditor, you might have to pay for their work if you are the company with the permit.
