You can tell the Registrar-General about a service marriage that happened outside New Zealand. You can do this if you are a party to the service marriage or a descendant of the parties. You can also tell the Registrar-General on behalf of a party or descendant. You need to give the Registrar-General some information. This includes a record of the service marriage that is signed by the person who performed it, as stated in section 55. You may also need to give other information about the marriage. You can find more information about this by looking at s 57(2). The Registrar-General uses this information to keep track of marriages. This helps keep records up to date.
