You can ask the Registrar-General for a written statement about a death that happened overseas. You need to pay a fee for this request. The Registrar-General can give you a statement that says if they have a certificate or information about the death. You can get a statement that tells you if the Registrar-General has a certificate about the death under section 49. It can also tell you if they have information from an overseas registration authority about the death. The statement will give you the information from the certificate or the overseas authority. The Registrar-General will also say they are not responsible for making sure the information is correct. They are not responsible for checking if a certificate is real either.
