When you notify a birth in New Zealand, you must give one surname and one or more other names for the child. You can give only one name if it is required by a parent's or guardian's religious or cultural beliefs, or if the birth is a stillbirth. The Registrar-General may decline to include a name if it does not meet certain rules, as outlined in section 18, and the Family Court has not agreed to include it.
