Birth certificates
80Contents of birth certificates generally
A birth certificate in respect of a person must contain all of the information that—
- is recorded in the registry in relation to the person; and
- is required by regulations to be contained in a birth certificate.
The Registrar-General must also indicate on the birth certificate—
- that the person was stillborn (if the Registrar-General is satisfied that the person was stillborn); or
- that the person is deceased (if the Registrar-General is satisfied that the person is dead); or
- that the Registrar-General has received a certificate or information relating to the death of the person outside New Zealand (if the Registrar-General has recorded the receipt of a certificate or information in relation to the death under section 50).
This section is subject to the following sections:
- section 27 (which relates to the contents of a person’s birth certificate after registration of the person’s nominated sex):
- section 81 (which relates to the contents of a person’s birth certificate issued after a correction of information in the person’s birth record):
- section 83 (which relates to the contents of an adopted person’s birth certificate).
