General provisions

7Definitions used in this Part

  1. In this Part,—

    celebrant means,—

    1. in relation to a marriage, a person who is a marriage celebrant under the Marriage Act 1955 and who solemnised the marriage; and
      1. in relation to a civil union, a person who is a civil union celebrant under the Civil Union Act 2004 and who solemnised the civil union

        medical practitioner has the same meaning as in section 5 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003

          New Zealand aircraft means—

          1. an aircraft registered in New Zealand under the Civil Aviation Act 2023; or
            1. an aircraft of the armed forces (within the meaning of the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971)

              New Zealand ship means—

              1. a New Zealand ship (as defined in section 2(1) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994); or
                1. a ship of the armed forces (within the meaning of the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971)

                  service marriage has the meaning given to it by section 2(1) of the Marriage Act 1955.
