Marriages and civil unions: Notification of marriage or civil union in New Zealand
54Registering officer of Society of Friends or exempt religious body must provide marriage form to Registrar-General
This section applies to a marriage solemnised in accordance with—
- the marriage regulations of the religious Society of Friends (commonly called Quakers); or
- the rules and procedures of an exempt religious body (as defined in section 32A(5) of the Marriage Act 1955).
Each party to the marriage must, immediately after the solemnisation,—
- enter on both forms provided with the licence for the marriage under section 24 of the Marriage Act 1955 the information required by regulations; and
- ensure that both forms are signed by each party to the marriage and 2 witnesses to the solemnisation; and
- ensure that 1 form is provided to the registering officer of the Society of Friends or, as the case may require, the registering officer of the exempt religious body.
A registering officer of the Society of Friends or of an exempt religious body who receives a form under subsection (2)(c) must provide the form to the Registrar-General as soon as practicable after receiving it.
